So You Don’t Want to Buy an Off-the-Shoulder Top?

Off the shoulder tops are all over this summer. I myself have bought quite a few because they are such cute simple staples in a wardrobe. This post is for those who have a) not bought an off the shoulder top yet or b) those who want to stand out in a room full of off-the-shoulder tops. The trick is to use what you’ve got. That button-down that you haven’t touched in a couple of months? Grab it.

To master the off-the-shoulder-button-down look, first star by putting on and unbuttoning the shirt completely. Then hike the shoulders off and lay it against your body at a comfortable off-the-shoulder height. Next button down the shirt at your selected height and lastly tuck the collar in behind you so the shirt lays straight across your back. You can also roll up the sleeves or leave them down, whichever you prefer.

If you’re not too keen on your midriff showing, try a high-waisted pant, camisole or even just a longer button-down than I selected. Scroll down to get the look.
